Global Citizens Café

An intentionally cosy speaker series on topics with global relevance.

What is Global Citizens Café?

Think your smart friend talking about their cool research in the living room - Global Citizens Café is a series of speaker events held on campus at the Social Impact Studio. In this series we hear from uni students who present on an intriguing topic they’re studying - at previous GC Cafés we’ve had topics ranging from palliative care for former refugees to ozonesonde balloon launches. Stay tuned with our Instagram to see when the next one is coming up - tea, plunger coffee, and snacks on us!

This series is linked with the Matariki GCP, an initiative of the Matariki Network of Universities (MNU), which includes seven unis worldwide.

Speakers

The speakers at GC Cafés are Otago students who present on an interesting topic from their studies or research. It’s a great opportunity to practice your public speaking skills and chat with others about your nerdalicious pursuits, so if you’re interested in being a speaker at a GC Café send us an email and let us know your topic! Speakers need to have a presentation to go with their talk and be able to present on their topic for approximately 40 minutes.
