Description

Use your friendly smile and aroha to assist Āraiteuru Marae to run its Pātaka Ora Community Kitchen and provide inclusive free weekly meals for anyone and everyone who needs some Aroha! Volunteers will have a range of tasks to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. Āraiteuru also helps members of the wider community, including newcomers, to connect with each other and learn more about Te Ao Māori (Māori world/culture) at the same time.

Āraiteuru Marae would like to awhi as many people as possible for this position, from elderly, stay at home parents, unemployed/employed, single people, rangatahi (youth), tamariki (children), homeless, people needing a friend or someone to talk too, or whoever it is in our community that needs tautoko (support). Come and help them to run this exciting project!

As part of the Pātaka Ora kitchen support team you will help with:

  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere

  • Making people from all walks of life feel a sense of belonging

  • Helping to run the Community Soup Kitchen (Mondays alternating between lunch and dinner service)

  • Food Preparation

  • Cooking

  • Cleaning

  • Serving

  • Entertainment

  • Chatting to those who turn up on the day

Volunteers will get to:

  • Work together as a team

  • Be an imporant part of creating a friendly, inclusive and welcoming community

  • Help to provide a much needed food service

  • Learn more about Te Ao Māori

  • Build with a growing community

Requirements

  1. Initial Orientation (they'll show you what to do)

  2. A great attitude

  3. Good communication skills

  4. Be helpful and friendly

  5. Have a heart for community building

Time commitment

1-4 hours, any spare time you have - come along and volunteer (they would greatly appreciate your support). Mondays each week alternating between dinner and lunch - check www.facebook.com/PatakaOra and/or email them to confirm what's coming up!
