Organisation

Budo Culture for Disabled (BCD)

Description

Volunteering with BCD involves individuals assisting attendees with disabilities to participate in martial art classes. Volunteers at BCD help by encouraging and supporting attendees to engage, listen, assist them with physical stretching, punching and other games which are played at classes.

Requirements

  • Having martial arts experience is ideal but not essential.

  • Ability to be patient and listen to attendees.

  • Some understanding of physical and intellectual disabilities - but this is not essential.

  • Any activewear clothing - if you have your own martial arts uniform this is great to wear.

Location: St James Church Hall, 393 King Edward Street, South Dunedin

We have education pamphlets on how to work with people with disabilities who attend the group. Training involves coming along and seeing what it is about alongside volunteers already attending.

When

Classes run Saturday Mornings. The first-class runs from 10:30 am - 11:30 am and the second class runs from 11:30 am - 12 pm.
