General Questions
-
You can start the ELP at any stage of your degree. However, individual categories must be completed before you graduate from your degree.
-
ELP is self-directed which offers great flexibility. Get involved with activities where you have capacity, and take a break when you're busy. Individual categories need at least 30 hours of activity and then the remaining time is spent on the reflection component (approx 1-2 hours).
-
No you don't. Every enrolled student gains automatic access to the Otago CareerHub platform, which hosts many learning career development resources and events and allows you to make appointments with career advisors. You will need your university username and passport to log into the platform.
-
No worries, we have people on hand to support you. Send an email to volunteer@otago.ac.nz or pop into the Social Impact Studio.
Categories and Activity Hours
-
We recommend choosing the Category that you believe would be most impactful or useful for you to receive recognition for.
-
Activity hours can be used for one Category only.
-
If your role is rich enough that you have multiple areas of focus, then you can submit different activity hours for different Categories e.g. the same club executive member might run a student engagement event (Student and Campus Engagement Category) and then an outreach activity (Community Engagement).
-
Yes, activities that have taken place within the past two calendar years of registering for the ELP may be counted.
-
Not at all! You are welcome to log as many hours as you have. The 30 hours is a minimum.
-
Training hours are excluded from the 30 Activity Hours.
Digital Badges
-
A digital badge is validated digital proof of an accomplishment, achievement or skill. Our badges are issued by the Open Badge Factory and include information about the criteria needed to earn the badge.
-
Once you have completed the requirements for a Category and your workflow has been reviewed by a coordinator, you will be emailed a link to claim your digital badge.
-
The badges are a great way to share your achievements with your community and future employers. Some suggestions include:
downloading the badge as an image file and including it in your email signature
share it on your LinkedIn profile (it will display under Licenses & Certifications)
