 Aspire

  • Running from 2014 to 2023, the Aspire Programme was an after-school experience where pupils from local Dunedin schools are paired with a University of Otago student volunteer.

  • We hosted the students on campus, started a higher education dialogue, demystified the university campus and opened the pupils’ eyes to the opportunities and excitement of further education.

Brock Party

  • A student-led collaboration with Otago Response Team and the local community had 70 students spend the day in Brockville - a beautiful suburb on the outskirts of Dunedin

  • Students got stuck in across the board, painting, cleaning, and transforming the backyards of former refugee families into vegetable patches.

Dunedin Sleep Out

  • A community event to raise funds for Dunedin Night Shelter

  • We braced the cold and spent a night in Winter to demonstrate our commitment to fight against poverty and homelessness

  • Cardboard forts, fire-spinning lessons, dance parties…

  • 100 students raising around $10,000

The Dunedin Sleep Out is a prime example of what is achieved when you enable the freedom and creativity of students and channel them towards a cause they are passionate about. The Sleep Out is attributed with significantly raising the profile of the Dunedin Night Shelter in the city.
