FAQ’S

I’ve never done anything like this before, is this program for me?

This leadership program is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been in a leadership role before, don’t have the loudest voice or don’t see yourself as a leader - we want YOU. Everyone is an impact player in their own way and this award will help you see that for yourself.

I’m a post-graduate student, is this program for me?

As long as you’ve got 2 academic years left, yes it is! The program is about YOUR growth and development which is not limited to how much study you’ve got left or how old you are.

Can I only do this award if it’s relevant to my degree?

Absolutely not! This is for anyone and everyone who is interested in leadership, social impact and making change happen. We believe anyone can be a change maker regardless of what they’re studying and what their mahi is about.

I’m a student not based in Dunedin, can I still apply for the program?

Unfortunately, we only have the capacity to accept applications from students based in Ōtepoti.

Is this something I can put on my CV?

Absolutely! UOSLA also helps develop the skills on the Otago Graduate Attributes list to help boost employability.

I’m full on with study and/or work. Will I have time to fit this in?

We know that study & work is already a heavy workload. The great thing about the award is that’s flexible to make it suit your schedule. The workshops and hours can be spread out over the 2 years so it doesn’t get overwhelming. You can put the award on hold during busy periods if you need it. However we understand that studies come first and, if you’d like to leave the program to keep on top of studies, you can.

I would love to apply but I cannot make the Intensive Day on Sat 29th April. Can I still apply?

If you would like to apply, you can seek an exemption from the award co-ordinator. Indicate this on the application form and the award co-ordinator will get in touch with you.

I would love to apply but I’m going on exchange. Can I still apply?

Yes you can! As long as you can complete the workshops before you go on exchange, you can complete the award.

I’ve done some volunteering already this year, will that count?

If you’re planning to apply this year, any hours you’ve done since 1st Jan 2023 will count.

Is there a deadline to complete all the requirements?

There is a deadline if you’re planning to graduate that particular year. If you’re intending to graduate, the expectation is that you complete all the requirements by early October that year. There is lots of support and aroha to reach this deadline so not to worry!
