University of Otago Student Leadership Award | Supported by Canon

Why you’d take this on?

The University of Student Leadership Award, supported by Canon, is about leadership for social change. It’s about leadership with a purpose, working towards positive change in the community and helping students to develop their own leadership practice along the way. We use the Social Change Model of Leadership to guide your learning process.

What it involves?

In addition to connecting with a group of motivated students involved in a hugely rich array of social action and community activities, the programme involves mentorship, leadership development planning, leadership workshops and reflection journaling. You also complete a minimum of 170 hours of leadership and service activities across the duration of the programme.

Are you eligible?

The Award is open to students from all academic disciplines. Typically the Award is best suited to undergraduate students who have at least two years of academic study remaining. The Award is not recommended for students undertaking Health Sciences First Year.

Information Sessions

This year we’re not hosting information sessions, instead our award co-ordinator has recorded a wee video to share the magic of the award. If you have further questions - read our FAQ’s or e-mail ola@otago.ac.nz

I hoped to develop my understanding of leadership in a more socially conscious way - which definitely happened. I learnt about the importance using my privilege to project the voices of those who need to be heard, and who don’t have the same platform that I do.

It really was a programme that brought my priorities and consciousness of social change into check.
