Escort and Helping Hand for the Elderly and Mobility Impaired - Plusbus
Escort and Helping Hand for the Elderly and Mobility Impaired - Plusbus
Organisation
Dunedin Community Transport Trust (Plusbus)
Description
Escort elderly and mobility impaired clients on the PlusBus - taking them to the supermarket, assisting them with shopping if necessary and returning them home, carrying their groceries into their homes. The role also includes receiving the clients' payment, and giving change. Sometimes escorts are required to assist clients to actually do the shopping within the supermarket, or shopping on their behalf if the client is temporarily unable. You can be picked up from your own home if you live on the route.
Requirements
Empathy and understanding with mostly elderly clients.
Ability to assist and shop for others when necessary.
Basic cash handling and numeracy skills.
Need the mobility to get in and out of the front of a 10 seater van, and be able to carry supermarket bags of shopping.
To be friendly and outgoing, and able to make each trip a pleasurable experience for clients.
Casual and tidy dress. A hi-vis jacket will be provided.
Able to shadow an existing volunteer for a few days if necessary. Other training or support can be offered on an as needed basis. Each trip has a driver, so there is always someone else on hand to assist and support.
Volunteers will be interviewed and police vetting will be undertaken. Referees are required and will be contacted by phone by the coordinator
