Do you love hands on work? Do you value conservation and heritage? Use your practical skills to support the Trust's Ecological Re-vegetation project and help to support the ecology, biodiversity and heritage of Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua!
The Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua Community Inc focus on the ecological restoration of the Island, which is listed as a Historic Area with Heritage NZ. The Community helps to care for the Island, protecting and enhancing its ecology, biodiversity and heritage. Quarantine Island was once a completely bush-clad forest that was cut down to make way for quarantine buildings and farming.
The Trust is currently seeking an Ecological Restoration Worker for their Re-vegetation project on Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua, which is located in the Dunedin Harbour.
In this role you will:
Engage in weed control
Perform General maintenance tasks
Engage in painting
Use your gardening skills
Farming (Care of sheep)
You will be provided with the following training:
An initial orientation will be provided

You will have the opportunity to work alongside a great team of like-minded volunteers while enjoying a beautiful island
Requirements
Enthusiasm
General “DIY” skills
Previous experience painting, farming (care of sheep), gardening, maintenance and weed control is an advantage
Dress in working clothes, wear good sturdy footwear (with ankle support) and bring sun protection and a hat
Must be physically able to perform necessary tasks
Time commitment
Can vary on application, weekdays/weekends
