Purpose

Aroha Kaikorai Valley is a community-driven initiative focused on improving environmental health in the Kaikorai Valley through water quality restoration, plant and predator management, and local engagement.

Description

The magnificent Kaikorai Valley is home to a large community with a mix of industrial and residential buildings and magnificent green spaces. The centrepiece of Kaikorai Valley is Kaikorai Stream, which threads its way through many historical features and modern developments. It has seen the best and worst of times. Now it's time for the community to band together and make a difference.
Aroha Kaikorai Valley are looking for someone to coordinate and run clean up days.

  • Scope sites and assess for suitability, e.g. enough rubbish for 20 people to clean up, assess terrain as suitable for all fitness levels.

  • Contact AKV and Keep Dunedin Beautiful to notify the location, date and time of the event.

  • Pick up rubbish clean-up gear from DCC.

  • Run the day, including health and safety briefing, counting the number of helpers, issuing gear, debrief, and arranging morning tea.

  • Arrange for rubbish to go to the dump.

  • Return gear to DCC.

  • Write report for website (with photos).

Aroha Kaikorai Valley (AKV) is a registered charity, community and business-led organisation. Together, we can bring about massive change. We can eliminate weeds and pests, plant native plants to enhance our environment while attracting birds and cleaning up our waterways.

Some great work has already been started by various organisations and AKV is hoping to build on that progress by teaming business support with people power to make Kaikorai Valley as beautiful and healthy as possible.

Requirements

They are looking for someone with event planning experience to join our AKV team. This would suit someone who has good coordination, communication skills and enjoys organising others. This role could be shared between two or three people.

Time commitment

We're running about 3 or 4 rubbish clean-ups a year. The time commitment would come in bursts for a couple of weeks and then go quiet again.
