Description
Join us in transforming fabric offcuts and 'scraps' into a range of creative and practical projects for local community groups! Weekly working bees are great for meeting and working together with a small group of others, arranging fabric selections, cutting out, sewing, and finishing touches. Projects vary week to week depending on projects we have on the go; our current main project is making patchwork blankets and beanies for the families of the Dunedin Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Skills that can be gained from this role:
Experience in working with different fabrics; creative use of colour and pattern; accurate fabric cutting; sewing skills using a sewing machine and hand-sewing
Working in a friendly and welcoming group environment
Helping with the project mission to reduce waste
Contributing skills to encourage local children and people in a wide range of situations
Requirements
Our weekly working bees are open to any level of experience with textiles and sewing, as volunteers can choose the area they are happy working, or have help learning new skills. All that is needed is enthusiasm.
Full training is provided. Any additional support can offer can be arranged as needed.
Time commitment
Working bees are held on Thursday mornings each week, from 10:30am till 1pm. Volunteers are welcome for the whole 3 hours or for any shorter period they are available.
