Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders and working to save lives since 1885. As well as providing Ambulance Services, their programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu; supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier and longer lives.
Description
One of the community programmes provided by Hato Hone St John is Friends of the Emergency Department (FED). In the busy emergency department of a hospital, a friendly, calm face can be comforting. Their volunteers are there to listen, give information and provide support to patients and their whānau.
If you have time to help people in a busy hospital setting, and enjoy leading a team and working with others, then this could be the perfect volunteering role for you.
As a Friends of the Emergency Department Team Leader you will be involved in:
Recruitment and training of new volunteers
Liaising with Hospital staff
Reporting and attending Area Committee Meetings as required
Organising recognition events, meetings and team training
Assisting with the recruiting, training and activities of new volunteers
Some of the team admin tasks are completed from home, while other tasks involve visiting the hospital to liase with Hospital staff and with volunteers.

Requirements
A genuine interest in the well-being of others
Experience and ability to problem solve, lead a team and be a team-player
Computer literate and able to perform required administrative tasks
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to relate to people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
Applicants must be 18+ with a clean criminal record
Time commitment
Approximately 2-4 hours weekly for team admin (which is mostly done from home)
2hr Initial Induction (with ongoing training/support provided)
Ideally you'd be able to attend at least one 2-3 hour shift per month at the hospital
Background Check
Police check - working with vulnerable people
