Purpose
CSS mission is 'To care for, empower, and connect individuals, whanau, and communities, and they do this through the provision of community and social services including counselling and parenting support. CSS are open to all, and are flexible and accommodating'. Their Vision is to see “All people living life well: connected, confident, and flourishing”. Their aim is, “Working together to live life well” – “Mahi tahi tatou : ka ora tahi tatou”.
Description
The CSS Community Meal is held on Mondays during the school term time, at the CSS buildings - 42 Macandrew Rd in South Dunedin. This food service is a great way for locals in need to enjoy a nutritious meal in the company of others.
As a Community Meal Support Person you will be:
Helping to prepare food in the morning
Working with others in CSS's conventionally equipped commercial style kitchen
(homestyle ovens and cook tops)Engage your food creativity by assembling a diverse range of basic meals
Serving food to a range of people from diverse backgrounds during lunchtime
Engaging in friendly, polite and confidential conversation
Assisting with the clean-up/pack down following the lunch
Training/Supervision provided:
Initial training/orientation is provided
You will always be working with others and under the supervision of a CSS staff member

Requirements
A great attitude
Ability to conduct yourself in a safe manner in a kitchen
Someone who is a team player
Able to relate to a diversity of people, cultures and backgrounds
No previous food prep experience necessary
Ability to commit to at least 1 Community Meal a month
Time commitment
5 1/2 hours: Food prep starts at 8:30am and clean-up/pack down concludes at 2pm during the school terms
(Runs for 10 weeks and breaks for 2 weeks during school holidays)Volunteers can choose to help with either food prep, serving or clean-up - or all
The South Dunedin Community Meal is open to the public from 11:30am - 1pm
