Town Belt Kaitiaki

Purpose

Town Belt Kaitiaki is a student-led education programme for Dunedin schools and early childhood centres, which aims to help young people develop knowledge about the environment, values that reflect environmental stewardship (kaitiakitanga), leadership skills and overall hauora.

Description

Volunteering for TBK is an opportunity to meet people, get active, enjoy the outdoors, and truly make a difference in your community! Most activities are during the week and last about 3 hours - they vary from activities such as helping school students with planting, weeding, trapping, and using iNaturalist. You will get training if you don't have it and will potentially have the opportunity to be upskilled in Health and Safety and other related courses, usually free of charge. They welcome all tertiary student applications whether they are in the sciences or not, and love to hear from post-graduates, or those who hope to be in Dunedin for a year or more.
