Purpose

Victim Support provides a free, nationwide support service for people affected by crime, trauma, and suicide in New Zealand. We help our clients to find safety, healing, and justice after crime and other traumatic events.

Description

Victim Support is an independent incorporated society that provides a free 24 / 7 community response to help victims of serious crime and trauma. Volunteers are at the heart of our service.

Their free service provides emotional and practical support, information, referral to other support services and advocacy for the rights of victims. This support helps victims find strength, hope and safety in the face of grief and trauma at what may be the worst time of their life.

Volunteers are required to support victims of crime and trauma. This can be done by:

  • Phone or visit

  • Being an advocate.

  • Assessing their needs

  • Making referrals to other agencies or suggesting other agencies that can assist.

Any volunteers interested will have to undertake an interview, a police check and referees are required. Comprehensive training is provided and all travel costs will be paid by Victim Support.

Please note: You have to be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Permanent resident in order to become a volunteer with Victim Support.
