Purpose
Providing positive youth mentoring and youth development programmes to families in Southern Dunedin since 2002.
Description
We are looking for people to assist Rock Solid's Youth Workers to run an evening Youth Club for 20+ young people (some from challenging circumstances). Activities include games and sports based with discussions. For volunteers who have time & energy, this can potentially lead to mentoring relationships as well. Volunteers will need to be willing to be a role model, show leadership, and be a listening ear.
A training camp at the beginning of each year will be provided to volunteers. You will be taken through our Leaders Training Manual by a Youth Worker, & given the opportunity for discussion, learning, debriefing over the course of the year.
This volunteer opportunity is based in either South Dunedin or Brockville on Tuesday evenings. Carpooling can be arranged to get you out there.
Requirements
Potential volunteers should have the following skills:
Empathy
Responsibility
Listening skills
Energy
Desire to make a difference in young people's lives
Time commitment
Either Monday evening, Tuesday evening, Wednesday evening or Thursday evening from 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Background Check
Police check
Referees such as a past employer are also required
